Shelly Worthy Eveleigh (daughter of Alfred Fagon) is offering a mentorship for two Black British theatre practitioners to gain experience in theatre and circus festival production at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Shelly is the Stage Manager of the Outside Circus Stage and the Circus Field in the Theatre and Circus Area at Glastonbury Festival. She has managed these stages for 20 years.
Shelly facilitates communication across all creative and technical departments; acts as a right hand to the director; oversees sets, props, lights, and sound and supervises all technical cues during performances.
Under Shelley’s supervision mentees will:
- Work alongside the stage managers and crew within the Theatre and Circus Area.
- Be based on the Outside Circus Stage and The Circus Field.
- Have their camping gear, footwear and food provided.
- Whilst there you will be camping in the Outside Circus Stage and the Circus Field area backstage that has its own restaurant, bar, stage, showers and toilets
Mentees will spend time in these different areas:
- The Cabaret Stage
- The Circus Big Top
- The Four Riser stages
- The Theatre Tent
- The Backstage production
- The Site crew
The Outside Circus Stage and Circus Field team’s job is to look after the artists so they can put on the best show possible. They are also responsible for helping the welfare of the public who are attending the festival
Mentees will be included in all briefings / health and safety protocols/ all procedures for running the area. This will include:
- Working with Head of Production on supervising the operation of a designated festival stage
- Familiarizing yourself with the details of their stage ahead of the event (running order, stage and artist technical specification, load-in and parking information, etc).
- Working alongside the crew and the production staff to act as a main point of contact for both artists and venue on the day of the show, providing excellent communication and ensuring that the show is running in a timely manner.
- Recognizing and trouble-shooting any issues that may arise.
- Assisting all artists with their rider requests (within what has been agreed during advancing process).
- Maintaining excellent communication with the Head of Production throughout the event regarding the status of the stage.
- Acting as a friendly presence and maintain a positive atmosphere throughout the event.
Production office staff role includes:
- Area admin (pre and during the festival), this includes providing accurate (i.e. cross-referenced as schedules change and differ) timetables of various areas Outside Circus Stage has jurisdiction for, plus information for walkabouts and other relevant areas. Also includes printing area maps/H&S information.
- Contact lists for Theatre & Circus
- Produce procedures for how the crew/office runs i.e. the chain of command and process for incidents and emergencies.
- Be responsible for incident and emergency reporting and procedure.
- Be responsible for H&S reports throughout the festival.
- Create crew rotas – liaising with other crews i.e. fire Stewards
- Provide information and signposting to crew/other crews/performers
- Performer liaison, being supportive and taking care of artists technical/physical/emotional wellbeing
- Performer transport support on/off site issues and around site via onsite transport.
- Supporting and procuring relating to artists’ Tech Spec requirements and liaising with various Stage Managers
- Area infrastructure support i.e. maintaining and troubleshooting power supply to all areas/internet/toilets and plumbing.
- Liaising with the main T&C production office as well as other stages and areas.
- Liaising with other teams i.e. Stewards and Security.
- Ad hoc planning of rescheduling due to weather/ crowd control issues and anything else that may arise.

Fee: This is an unpaid role however, travel and accommodation costs will be covered
