What are the themes of your play?
Inherited trauma
Isolation
Hope
Why did you write it and why now?
I started it because I couldn’t stop hearing the protagonists voice in my head. I finished it because her voice was important. I think we’re living in a world where we’re not only carrying our pain, but the pain of generations past and each are of us feel more isolated than ever. Trauma can be cyclical, I wanted this plain to feel honest but give people hope and make us aware of ordinary strength we each possess.
Which playwrights are you influenced by and in what way?
Susan Lori-Parks
Roy Williams
Shakespeare
Ted Hughes
What do you want to achieve as a playwright?
I want to write stories that make us feel. That make us connect with ourselves and with others. I want to make plays that don’t exploit our experiences but, instead humanises them. I want to make to make people laugh and think.
