I’m a dual heritage poet, playwright and performer from Manchester. After performing my poetry at various events in Manchester over the last couple of years, I was encouraged to transform my poems into plays. With the support of Box of Tricks theatre company (BOTTC) I completed my first draft of Skipping Rope earlier this year. In June of this year I was invited to take part in Talawa Firsts, where skipping rope was further developed.

As from October 2015 I will be Talawa Theatre Company’s writer on placement at the Royal Exchange, with a commission to write my second play.

Why did you write the play and what inspired you?

Life… Its ups and downs, highs and lows, known’s and unknown’s, is what’s inspired me to write skipping Rope

Where would you like your play to be performed?

Skipping Rope could be performed everywhere and anywhere. In the round at the Royal exchange or in the round at the local park

What do you want audiences to take from the play?

I would like the audience to take a better second glance and a more informed assumption of the world and people around us.

Which playwright/writer do you admire and why?

There’s a bunch of writers I enjoy. Phillip Ridley, Shelagh Delany, Shakespeare. Benjamin Zephaniah, John Cooper Clarke.

What do you want to achieve as a playwright?

As a Playwright I would love to be able to attract a new audience to the theatre. If I can get my family and friends to enjoy the theatre through my work anything after that is a bonus.
