What are the themes of your play?
Forgiveness (for others, and the self), redemption, brotherhood, and healing.
Why did you write it and why now?
I wrote it to turn closer to the questions I’ve held in my heart over the last 10 years about my relationship with my brothers (both blood and beyond), and the ways the body holds and releases grief and regret.
And why now? Because those questions felt too loud to ignore.
Which playwrights are you influenced by and why?
August Wilson. His writing explores Black experiences with a kinetic energy that pierces straight through to the heart.
What do you hope to achieve as a playwright?
To continue turning towards the questions in my heart, and when they get too loud… write through them.
